Why Gut Health Matters
Over 2,000 years ago, Ancient Greek physician and the father of modern medicine Hippocrates said “all disease begins in the gut”. This was before “leaky gut” was discovered, before fermented foods hit the market and before probiotics became all the rage.
Just as all disease starts in the gut, health does too:
70-80% of your immune system is located in the gut
90-95% of your feel-good brain chemical serotonin is made in the gut (not the brain)
20% of thyroid hormone conversion (T4 —> T3) happens in the gut
Most of us correlate good gut health to strong digestion but, as you can see, it’s SO much more. The gut regulates your mood, your energy and your metabolism. It impacts your sleep. It runs your immune system. It affects your skin. And it plays a strong role in your body weight, fat distribution, hunger and cravings.
Gut health IS total body health. It doesn’t matter if you’re struggling with bloating, gas and constipation; intense sugar cravings; brain fog, depression and anxiety; acne; or seasonal allergies, all symptoms WILL improve when your gut microbiome is balanced.
