Stuck in a Rut? Make Healthy FUN Again

If you’re of the camp that healthy eating = baked, minimally seasoned, dried out chicken breast with steamed broccoli, this one’s for you!

Eat healthy doesn’t have to be boring. From spices and seasonings to textural elements, there are countless ways to excite your palate, making healthy eating fun, craveable and exciting! Here are a few of my favorites:

  1. Eat what you want, paired with something healthy - striving for 80/20 balance is KEY to making healthy choices sustainable for a lifetime. Thus, if you’re craving pizza, have it, but instead of a few slices, just have one, and pair it with a big salad. The trick is that you’re having what you want but because it’s not the “healthiest”, you’re combining it with a salad to still get nourishment. Plus, the vitamins, minerals and fiber provided by that salad will help fill you up faster so you feel satisfied by eating less of the overindulgence.

  2. Have themed nights - Meatless Monday and Taco Tuesday make healthy eating fun for the whole family. All you do is simply pick a theme (i.e. Backyard BBQ) and base the meal around that concept (i.e. BBQ chicken with corn on the cob and grilled veggies).

  3. Add cacao nibs - whether you’re making a healthy dessert, i.e. chia pudding or avocado mousse, or a green smoothie, cacao nibs add that element of fun. They’re crunchy, chocolate-y, dopamine-boosting goodness!

In my opinion, eating healthy is not about dieting, restricting and “locking it up” for a certain period of time so you can hit your goals and then go back to what you were eating before (insert yo-yo here). It’s about making it a lifestyle and the only way to do that is to actually ENJOY the process. By eating what you want (with portion control and healthy pairings), having themed eating and using crunchy toppings, you will certainly find the FUN in any healthy eating program!
