Natural Beauty: Recipes for A DIY Spa Day
New year, new you!
If you feel like you’re in desperate need of a makeover, but not the price tag that follows a day at the spa, I hear you! Here are a few of my favorite natural beauty treatments that will help you get glowing and radiant (on the cheap) from the comfort of your own home:
Olive Oil & Sugar Hand Scrub
To make: combine 1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil and 1 cup organic cane sugar in a mason jar. Stir well to combine, adding more oil, if necessary. Cover and store by the sink for future uses.
To use: apply 1-2 tablespoons of the scrub to your hands. Gently massage around all areas, including the cuticles, preferably over the sink (to avoid making a mess), for 1-2 minutes. Rinse with warm water, pat dry and immediately apply hand cream to lock in the moisture.
Great for dry hands, this DIY beauty treatment is naturally exfoliating, moisturizing and nourishing to the skin. Love it? Feel free to try it on the body too :)
Activated Charcoal Tooth Whitener
To make: melt 2 tablespoons coconut oil in a small saucepan. Add liquified oil to a small glass bowl or mason jar. Mix in 1/2 teaspoon activated charcoal, 2 tablespoons baking soda and 1-2 drops peppermint essential oil. Cover with lid and store in a cool, dry place.
To use: apply a layer of charcoal toothpaste atop a toothbrush (separate from your everyday toothbrush). Brush top AND bottom chompers for 2 minutes, trying your best to avoid the gums (as much as possible) to prevent irritation. Once completed, spit into the sink, rinse your mouth well with warm water and brush your teeth again with a clean toothbrush, if necessary, to remove any residual black marks. Use 1-2 times per week.
This simple DIY toothpaste naturally cleanses and whitens the teeth. Activated charcoal lifts stains and pulls toxins, leaving your mouth squeaky clean and the surface of your teeth visibly whiter within just a few uses!
Flawless Skin Face Mask
To make: Mix 1 egg white, 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice and 1 teaspoon raw honey together in a small glass bowl.
To use: apply egg white mask to your face (on dry skin). Let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes, then rinse with warm water and proceed with your skincare regime. Use once per week or alternate weekly with a Manuka honey mask if you are acne-prone.
Packed with protein, antioxidants and antibacterial properties, this mask helps tighten, tone and firm the skin while minimizing pore size, lightening age spots, clarifying the skin and alleviating blackheads - yes, yes and YES!
Freshen up, brighten your smile and alleviate dry, chapped winter skin in less than an hour with these natural DIY beauty treatments! Who needs the spa?!
